While city dwellers endured the heat wave while maintaining fast during the Holy Month of Ramadan, Heroes for All (HFA) in collaboration with ASHIC Foundation has come together for the third time to spread joy and happiness amongst the brave children and teens who are fighting Cancer. The true spirit of Eid-ul-Fitr and the joy it brings transcends all barriers, uniting everyone without discrimination In alignment with that spirit these two voluntary organizations decided to create a festive atmosphere of Eid-ul-Fitr for the underprivileged little warriors and their parents. On the 30th March 2024, Saturday, the children had a pleasant surprise waiting for them in the afternoon, to escape the pain of the disease and enjoy the fun-filled activities to their hearts’ content and receive Eid gifts arranged just for them. Held at the premises of ASHIC Foundation at Kazi Nazrul Islam Avenue, Dhaka witnessed a joyous time.

According to the World Child Cancer Organization’s website, “It is estimated that around 9000-12000 children develop cancer in Bangladesh every year….yet less than 1% of these children ever access palliative care”. This seems to happen mainly because of limited awareness among the people. Therefore, the event’s purpose was also to inform and raise awareness about this pressing issue among the country’s citizens.

The program was organized to give the children and their parents a much-needed space of comfort and joy, away from hospital visits and grief. This year’s event started by creating a space where the children could explore and get in touch with their creative side.

A small, yet wholesome art exhibition was held. With the stroke of their paintbrushes, the children expressed themselves through vibrant paintings and joyful interactions in between with HFA volunteers and members of the executive body of HFA. The proactive communication of the Community Affairs Coordinator of HFA, Ms Fatema Rahman Rakhe streamlined the art exhibition segment, ensuring the children were at ease and comfortable. When their artwork was put on display, the children seemed to be rejuvenated and cheerful as their parents looked on beaming with pride.

The art exhibition was followed by a captivating magic show for the children. Awestruck, their eyes widened with wonder and curiosity as Illusionist S. A Walid Hassan, the magician mesmerized the audience with his spellbindingly spectacular performance.

The magic show was followed by inspirational speeches delivered by the Treasurer of HFA, Ms. Mahmuda Mannan, along with the Internal Affairs Manager of HFA Mr. Syed Md. Abu Saleh. This was followed by the distribution of special Eid gift bags along with baskets of fruits, provided by Ms. Simily Rahman, to the children by the members of the Executive body of HFA. The Founder and Chairperson of ASHIC Foundation, Mrs. Salma Choudhury was present at the event. The event ended with painted handprints of the brave little warriors on canvas titled “Stronger Me” and singing “ We shall overcome one day “ together.

The combined efforts of all the members and volunteers of Heroes for All, ASHIC Foundation, and the 93rd batch of North South University made the program a successful, joyful, and memorable one.

  • Overall activities of the day

The third Paara Utshab returned to another new community to promote the spirit of community togetherness and the power of connectivity. Realizing the need to re-engage the disengaged communities who are focused on having stronger relationships with devices and technology rather than people. Heroes for All (HFA), Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), and Baridhara Society jointly organized Paara Utshab on January 26, 2024, on the streets of Baridhara. This event was powered by BTI which also had a new emphasis on promoting “know thy neighbors”.

For too long there has been a gap between people and a safe space in the community for them to express themselves creatively and grow through interaction. To create an environment, that fosters creativity, the Utshab (festival) provides a much-needed safe space for future generations. Heroes for All has been initiating “Paara Utshab” since 2019. The event was inaugurated by the Honorable Mayor, Mr. Atiqul Islam, Her Excellency Ms. Sarah Cooke, the British High Commissioner to Bangladesh; His Excellency Shri Pranay Kumar Verma, High Commissioner of India; His Excellency Ambassador Leo Tito L. Ausan, Jr, Ambassador of Philippines to Bangladesh; His Excellency Haji Haris bin Othman, The High Commissioner of Brunei Darussalam to Bangladesh. State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid, MP, and the Head of American International School in Dhaka Mr. John Smithies also was a part of the Inauguration. Dr. Rehnuma Karim, the Founder and President of Heroes for All, Mr. Feroz M Hasan, serving as the President of Baridhara Society, and Mr. F.R. Khan, the Managing Director of BTI, collaboratively conveyed a message of gratitude during the Paara Utshab event. The event is continuing its trajectory from the successful Gulshan Paara Utshab last year to Baridhara this Community this time. The street festival is the annual fundraising event of Heroes for All which has been working on youth development since 2018.

The day-long festival was packed with so many activities. There were parallel sessions ranging from arts and handicrafts, fun activities, traditional games, paintings especially for kids, street drama, street magic, stand-up comedy, lathi khela, music, demonstrations of self-defense, awareness & well-being, and CPR & First Aid sessions, a talent show for everyone in the community, tarot card reading, and games for neighbors of all ages to stalls offering a variety of foods.

A Gulshan resident, who goes by the name Sanzida Mishu, has been in anticipation ever since she heard about ‘Paara Utshab’. Finally on 2 December, she visited the event with her sister and her mother. Organised by the Gulshan Society, Heroes for All, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and powered by Prime Bank, Paara Utshab was held at road 56, 60 and 62, Gulshan 2, beside Gulshan Park. Simple pedestrian streets took the form of a festival from 9 AM to 8 PM. Music, food, crafts, souvenirs, arts; the event had it all. A parrot picking tarot cards, popping balloons with an airgun and painting what you like on a long white drape were among the fun activities to be enjoyed by the visitors at Paara Utshab.

“It is very difficult to get to know each other in Gulshan,” said Sanzida. “On top of that, getting together in this manner is not quite possible. At Paara Utshab not only am I getting to meet and greet my neighbours, and my neighbour’s neighbour, I am also getting to meet many of neighbours’ pets!”

As is in the name, attendants were in a festive mood. Visitors got to know each other, shook hands, hugged, and shared stories of their lives, and how the kids are doing. They got acquainted with the people they have been living with in the Gulshan ‘paara’ in the most animated manner.

“Paara Utshab was a resounding success. It brought together people of all ages, young and old, and their pet companions too! By blocking off streets for pedestrians only, we were able to transform neighbourhoods, for the better,” said Shayaan Seraj, convenor of Paara Utshab on behalf of Gulshan Society.

Many visitors came with their pearl or golden labrador retriever, lhasa and pomeranian pet dog companions. The lovely pets had to dodge through the crowd and they too enjoyed just as much as their ‘hoomans’ did. One couple were telling each other, “Wish we’d brought our Jimmy (pet dog), he’d have loved it!”

Pampered Paws, a popular pet grooming shop, owned and run by Ahona Rahman, saw a lot of support that day. “We are almost out of pet products,” Ahona said at only around 6 PM. Beautiful stalls dotted the event. It was at a boutique stall where Sanzida was enjoying her younger sister dipping her hands in a vat of dye to design a dress herself. The whole day she had been enjoying the other fun stuff in the event. In the centre, a stage was set up where there were music recitals and performance art. Well known drama troupe Prachyanat also performed on stage.

‘It’s Humanity Foundation’ showcased and sold sunglasses, mugs and all sorts of glassware adorned in rickshaw paint. ‘Fleur de Lis’, a flower shop, was the best smelling corner of the event, with all the kinds of flowers it sold. At ‘Aka Aki’, photorealistic watercolour paintings were sold. The artist was doing live sketches of visitors as well.

‘Ambis’ was a gift shop, ‘Dadur Bari’ was an ‘achaar’ shop – selling homemade pickles and condiments, ‘Chaap Chai’ sold beef food items, ‘Aranya’ set up a stall too where they sold their signature items made from organic materials, ‘Shahi Mishti Paan’ was there too, allowing visitors to colour their mouths a little in the colours of the pre-winter fest. ‘Banglar Mishti’ had their own stall there, selling sweetmeat and it was a fairly crowded corner throughout the day. Stalls promoting mental health from ‘Mone Niye’, ‘Psychological Health and Wellness Clinic’ were also there. Besides those, ‘Charity Shop’ sold used and new items, the proceeds of which would go to charity for underprivileged children. Near the entrance/exit, Sabuj Miah, a busker playing and selling flutes, was playing ‘Milon Hobe Koto Din E’ on the flute. As they left the bustling fest, visitors were waved goodbye with the sweet sound flowing from Sabuj Miah’s melodious playing.

The founder of the Salma Adil Foundation and a former Safe Hands representative at the US Embassy, Ln. Salma Adil, MJF, expressed her happiness with the locals’ widespread participation in the “Paara Utshob.” She stated: “It is great to witness neighbors participating in long-standing cultural traditions together. This will encourage more social engagement in the neighborhood.”

As a continuation of the regular annual cultural event, ‘Heroes for All’ in cooperation with the Gulshan Society and the Dhaka North City Corporation arranged a day-long program ‘Paara Utshob’ in the Gulshan area in Dhaka recently, said a press release on Sunday.

Non-profit organization ‘Heroes for All’ founder Rehnuma Karim actively led the whole event. Tireless efforts by Heroes for All Inc volunteers and people behind the scenes Sazzad Sohel, Tanvir Ahmed from Gulshan Society along with Shayaan Seraj, Anis Zaman from DNCC team worked together to make this event a successful one.

Renowned Bangladeshi actress Azmeri Haque Badhon as well as Salma Adil from Salma Adil Foundation were active parts of the whole arrangement. Sarfaraz Anwar Upol gave his all-round support and encouragement, and ‘Moner Manush’ gave a tribute on the occasion with the famous National award-winning song – ‘Achen Amaar Moktar’. 

DNCC mayor Atiqul Islam was graciously present on the occasion as the honorable chief guest. He said, ‘We want a city where there will be no discrimination. My goal is to build a truly inclusive city where people of all walks of life will be involved.  ‘Para Utshob’ will play an important role in strengthening relations between neighbors and strengthening social bonds. Our children are not getting a chance to play, they have no friends. And that’s why an initiative like this is much needed. It will also reduce social injustice and unrest. This is how we want to build Dhaka for all.’

In the event, there were activities, fun food, games, magic, paintings, music, stand-up comedy, lathi khela, demonstrations of self-defense, street drama etc. and a talent show for everyone in the community. This very successful and unique event was arranged with a belief in having the vision of making the disconnected society connected for some brief but precious moments.

ঢাকা উত্তর সিটি করপোরেশনের (ডিএনসিসি) মেয়র মো. আতিকুল ইসলাম বলেছেন, ঢাকা শহরের সব এলাকাতে পাড়া উৎসব আয়োজন করা হবে। এ আয়োজন প্রতিবেশীদের মধ্যে সম্পর্ক উন্নয়ন ও সামাজিক বন্ধন দৃঢ় করবে। আজ শুক্রবার (২ ডিসেম্বর) রাজধানীর গুলশানের ৬০, ৬১ ও ৬২ নম্বর সড়কে পাড়া উৎসব উদ্বোধন অনুষ্ঠানে মেয়র এ সব কথা বলেন। উদ্বোধনী অনুষ্ঠানে প্রধান অতিথি হিসেবে উপস্থিত ছিলেন স্থানীয় সরকার, পল্লী উন্নয়ন ও সমবায় মন্ত্রী মো. তাজুল ইসলাম।

মেয়র বলেন, ‘শহরে দেখা যায় প্রতিবেশীরা এক ভবনে দীর্ঘদিন ধরে বসবাস করেও কেউ কাউকে সেভাবে চেনেন না। নিজেদের মধ্যে কোন যোগাযোগ নেই। তাই সবার সঙ্গে পরিচিত হতে এবং সম্পর্ক সুদৃঢ় করতে এই পাড়া উৎসবের আয়োজন করা হয়েছে। পাড়া উৎসব প্রতিবেশীদের মধ্যে সম্পর্ক উন্নয়ন ও সামাজিক বন্ধন দৃঢ় করতে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা রাখবে। পাড়া উৎসবকে ছড়িয়ে দিতে চাই পুরো ঢাকা শহরে। পর্যায়ক্রমে ঢাকা শহরের সব এলাকাতেই পাড়া উৎসব আয়োজন করা হবে।’

অনুষ্ঠানে স্থানীয় সরকার মন্ত্রী মো. তাজুল ইসলাম বলেন, ‘উন্নত বিশ্বের মতো ঢাকায়ও সুন্দর পরিবেশ সৃষ্টি করতে সকলকে এগিয়ে আসতে হবে। এই আয়োজনটি গ্রামের উৎসব ঢাকা শহরে ফিরে নিয়ে এসেছে৷ এখানে কোনো প্রতিযোগিতা নেই আছে শুধু হৃদ্যতা। প্রতিবেশীদের সাথে সৌহার্দপূর্ণভাবে বসবাস করতে এ ধরনের উৎসব আয়োজন ভূমিকা রাখবে।’

ডিএনসিসির সহযোগিতায় দ্বিতীয়বার এই পাড়া উৎসবের আয়োজন করে গুলশান সোসাইটি এবং স্বেচ্ছাসেবী সংগঠন হিরোস ফর অল। সকাল থেকে শুরু হওয়া এ উৎসবে ছিল দেশীয় পিঠার স্টল, বায়োস্কোপ, পুতুল নাচ, ম্যাজিক শো, স্বাস্থ্য সেবা স্টল, পাটের তৈরি পণ্য। এছাড়া আরো ছিল উইশ বোর্ড, শিশুদের ছবি আঁকার ক্যানভাস ও রংতুলি, ক্যারাম বোর্ড, দাবাসহ নানা ধরনের খেলার সামগ্রী। রাত ৮টা পর্যন্ত এ উৎসব চলবে।

রাজধানীর সব এলাকায় ‘পাড়া উৎসব’ করা হবে বলে জানিয়েছেন ঢাকা উত্তর সিটি করপোরেশনের (ডিএনসিসি) মেয়র আতিকুল ইসলাম। শুক্রবার রাজধানীর গুলশানের ৬০, ৬১ ও ৬২ নম্বর সড়কে পাড়া উৎসবের উদ্বোধনকালে তিনি এ কথা জানান। অনুষ্ঠানে মেয়র বলেন, ‘শহরের প্রতিবেশীরা এক ভবনে দীর্ঘদিন বাস করেও কেউ কাউকে চেনেন না। তাই সবার সঙ্গে পরিচিত হতে এবং সম্পর্ক সুদৃঢ় করতে এই পাড়া উৎসবের আয়োজন করা হয়েছে। পাড়া উৎসব প্রতিবেশীদের মধ্যে সম্পর্কোন্নয়ন ও সামাজিক বন্ধন দৃঢ় করতে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা রাখবে। পাড়া উৎসবকে ছড়িয়ে দিতে চাই পুরো ঢাকা শহরে।’

অনুষ্ঠানের প্রধান অতিথি স্থানীয় সরকারমন্ত্রী মো. তাজুল ইসলাম বলেন, ‘এই আয়োজনটি গ্রামের উৎসবের আমেজ ঢাকা শহরে ফিরিয়ে এনেছে। এখানে কোনো প্রতিযোগিতা নেই, আছে শুধু হৃদ্যতা।’ ডিএনসিসির সহযোগিতায় দ্বিতীয়বার এই পাড়া উৎসবের আয়োজন করে গুলশান সোসাইটি এবং স্বেচ্ছাসেবী সংগঠন ‘হিরোস ফর অল’। এ উৎসবে ছিল দেশীয় পিঠা ও পাটের তৈরি পণ্যের দোকান, বায়োস্কোপ, পুতুলনাচ, ম‌্যাজিক শো, স্বাস্থ‌্যসেবা। এ ছাড়া আরও ছিল উইশ বোর্ড, শিশুদের ছবি আঁকার ক্যানভাস, ক্যারাম বোর্ড, দাবাসহ নানা ধরনের খেলার সামগ্রী। রাত ৮টা পর্যন্ত এ উৎসব চলে। বাসিন্দাদের পাশাপাশি অনুষ্ঠানে অংশ নেন বাংলাদেশে নিযুক্ত বিভিন্ন দেশের রাষ্ট্রদূতরা।

অনুষ্ঠানে অন্যদের মধ্যে আরও উপস্থিত ছিলেন সংরক্ষিত আসনের নারী সংসদ সদস্য নাহিদ ইজাহার খান, ডিএনসিসির প্রধান নির্বাহী কর্মকর্তা মো. সেলিম রেজা, প্রধান স্বাস্থ্য কর্মকর্তা ব্রিগেডিয়ার জেনারেল মো. জোবায়দুর রহমান, প্রধান প্রকৌশলী ব্রিগেডিয়ার জেনারেল মো. আমিরুল ইসলাম, প্রধান বর্জ্য ব্যবস্থাপনা কর্মকর্তা কমোডর এস এম শরিফ-উল ইসলাম প্রমুখ।

ঢাকা উত্তর সিটি করপোরেশনের মেয়র আতিকুল ইসলাম বলেছেন, ‘আমরা চাই সুস্থ সামাজিক চর্চা ও পারস্পরিক শ্রদ্ধাবোধ। কিন্তু আমরা পারছি না। আমরা ঠিকই জাতীয় সংগীত গাই আমার সোনার বাংলা আমি তোমায় ভালোবাসি। অথচ ময়লাটা রাস্তায় ফেলে দেই, লালবাতি জ্বলার পরেও আমরা রাস্তায় গাড়ি চালিয়ে দেই।’ আজ শুক্রবার রাজধানীর গুলশানের ৬০, ৬১ ও ৬২ নম্বর সড়কে পাড়া উৎসব উদ্বোধন করে তিনি এসব কথা বলেন।

মেয়র বলেন, আজকে সাপ্তাহিক ছুটির দিনে গুলশানের সবার বাসায় বসে থাকার কথা ছিল কিন্তু আজ সবাই বাসা থেকে বেরিয়ে এসে এ উৎসবে যোগ দিয়েছে। তারা একে অন্যকে জিজ্ঞেস করছে তুমি কই থাকো। এই মিলনমেলার মাধ্যমে একটি বন্ধন তৈরি হয়েছে।

তিনি বলেন, আমরা চাই একটা সুন্দর সামাজিক বন্ধন ও একটি সুন্দর সমাজ। আমরা চাই সুস্থ সামাজিক চর্চা ও পারস্পরিক শ্রদ্ধাবোধ। কিন্তু আমরা পারছি না। আমরা ঠিকই জাতীয় সংগীত গাই আমার সোনার বাংলা আমি তোমায় ভালোবাসি। অথচ ময়লাটা রাস্তায় ফেলে দেই, লালবাতি জ্বলার পরেও আমরা রাস্তায় গাড়ি চালিয়ে দেই। এ বিষয়গুলো মাথায় রেখেই এ পাড়া উৎসব।

এ সময় স্থানীয় সরকার মন্ত্রী তাজুল ইসলাম বলেন, উন্নত বিশ্বের মতো ঢাকায়ও সুন্দর পরিবেশ সৃষ্টি করতে সবাইকে এগিয়ে আসতে হবে। এই আয়োজনটি গ্রামের উৎসব ঢাকা শহরে ফিরে নিয়ে এসেছে৷ এখানে কোনো প্রতিযোগিতা নেই, আছে শুধু হৃদ্যতা। প্রতিবেশীদের সাথে সৌহার্দ্যপূর্ণভাবে বসবাস করতে এ ধরনের উৎসব আয়োজন ভূমিকা রাখবে।

বক্তৃতা শেষে ডিএনসিসি মেয়র আতিকুল ইসলাম উৎসবে আগত বাসিন্দাদের উদ্দেশ্যে খোলা ট্রাকে এডিস মশার উৎসস্থলের প্রদর্শনীর মাধ্যমে ডেঙ্গু সচেতনতা কার্যক্রমে অংশগ্রহণ করেন।

অনুষ্ঠানে অন্যান্যের মধ্যে উপস্থিত ছিলেন সংরক্ষিত আসনের নারী সংসদ সদস্য নাহিদ ইজাহার খান, ডিএনসিসির প্রধান নির্বাহী কর্মকর্তা মো. সেলিম রেজা, প্রধান স্বাস্থ্য কর্মকর্তা ব্রিগে. জেনা. মো. জোবায়দুর রহমান, প্রধান প্রকৌশলী ব্রিগেডিয়ার জেনারেল মুহ. আমিরুল ইসলাম, প্রধান বর্জ্য ব্যবস্থাপনা কর্মকর্তা কমডোর এস এম শরিফ-উল ইসলাম, সচিব মোহাম্মদ মাসুদ আলম ছিদ্দিক, ১৯ নম্বর ওয়ার্ড কাউন্সিলর মো. মফিজুর রহমান প্রমুখ।

শহরে দেখা যায়, প্রতিবেশীরা দীর্ঘদিন এক ভবনে বসবাস করেও কেউ কাউকে সেভাবে চেনেন না। নিজেদের মধ্যে যোগাযোগও হয় না। তাই সবার সঙ্গে পরিচিত হতে, সম্পর্ক সুদৃঢ় করতে রাজধানীর গুলশানে আজ শুক্রবার অনুষ্ঠিত হলো পাড়া উৎসব। ঢাকা উত্তর সিটির সহযোগিতায় দ্বিতীয়বারের মতো এই উৎসবের আয়োজন করেছে গুলশান সোসাইটি এবং স্বেচ্ছাসেবী সংগঠন হিরোস ফর অল।

গুলশান এলাকার ৬০, ৬১ ও ৬২ নম্বর সড়কে এই পাড়া উৎসবের আয়োজন করা হয়। ‘পাড়া উৎসব’ প্রসঙ্গে ঢাকা উত্তর সিটির মেয়র আতিকুল ইসলাম বলেন, পাড়া উৎসব প্রতিবেশীদের মধ্যে সম্পর্ক উন্নয়ন ও সামাজিক বন্ধন দৃঢ় করতে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা রাখবে। তিনি এই উৎসবকে ভবিষ্যতে ঢাকা শহরের সব এলাকায় আয়োজন করা হবে বলে ঘোষণা দেন।

মেয়র আরও বলেন, ‘আমরা চাই একটা সুন্দর সামাজিক বন্ধন ও একটি সুন্দর সমাজ। আমরা চাই সুস্থ সামাজিক চর্চা ও পারস্পরিক শ্রদ্ধাবোধ। কিন্তু আমরা পারছি না। আমরা ঠিকই জাতীয় সংগীত গাই “আমার সোনার বাংলা, আমি তোমায় ভালোবাসি”। অথচ ময়লাটা রাস্তায় ফেলে দিই, লালবাতি জ্বলার পরেও আমরা রাস্তায় গাড়ি চালিয়ে দিই।’ নগরবাসীকে তিনি শহরকে ভালোবাসার আহ্বান জানান।

অনুষ্ঠানে প্রধান অতিথি হিসেবে উপস্থিত ছিলেন স্থানীয় সরকারমন্ত্রী তাজুল ইসলাম। তিনি বলেন, ‘উন্নত বিশ্বের মতো ঢাকায়ও সুন্দর পরিবেশ সৃষ্টি করতে সবাইকে এগিয়ে আসতে হবে। এই আয়োজনটি গ্রামের উৎসব ঢাকা শহরে ফিরিয়ে নিয়ে এসেছে। এখানে কোনো প্রতিযোগিতা নেই, আছে শুধু হৃদ্যতা৷ প্রতিবেশীদের সঙ্গে সৌহার্দ্যপূর্ণভাবে বসবাস করতে এ ধরনের উৎসব আয়োজন ভূমিকা রাখবে।’

স্থানীয় বাসিন্দাদের পাশাপাশি বাংলাদেশে নিযুক্ত বিভিন্ন দেশের রাষ্ট্রদূতেরাও এ উৎসবে অংশ নেন। স্থানীয় সরকারমন্ত্রী এবং ঢাকা উত্তর সিটির মেয়র অন্য অতিথিদের সঙ্গে নিয়ে প্রদর্শনী ঘুরে দেখেন এবং বাসিন্দাদের সঙ্গে শুভেচ্ছা বিনিময় করেন। একপর্যায়ে ঢাকা উত্তর সিটির মেয়র বিভিন্ন খেলায় অংশ নেন এবং গান গেয়ে নগরবাসীর সঙ্গে আনন্দ ভাগাভাগি করেন।

শুক্রবার সকাল থেকে এ উৎসব শুরু হয়। উৎসবে দেশীয় পিঠার দোকান, বায়োস্কোপ, পুতুলনাচ, জাদু প্রদর্শন, স্বাস্থ্যসেবা ও পাটের তৈরি পণ্যের দোকান ছিল। এ ছাড়া উইশ বোর্ড, শিশুদের ছবি আঁকার ক্যানভাস ও রংতুলি, ক্যারম বোর্ড, দাবাসহ নানা ধরনের খেলার আয়োজন করা হয়। রাত আটটায় এ উৎসব শেষ হয়।

‘পাড়া উৎসব’ ছড়িয়ে দিতে পর্যায়ক্রমে ঢাকা শহরের সব এলাকায় এ উৎসবের আয়োজন করা হবে বলে জানিয়েছেন ঢাকা উত্তর সিটি করপোরেশনের (ডিএনসিসি) মেয়র মো. আতিকুল ইসলাম। তিনি বলেন, ‘শহরে প্রতিবেশীরা এক ভবনে দীর্ঘদিন ধরে বসবাস করেও কেউ কাউকে সেভাবে চেনেন না। নিজেদের মধ্যে কোনো যোগাযোগ থাকে না। সবার সঙ্গে পরিচিত হতে এবং সম্পর্ক সুদৃঢ় করতে এ পাড়া উৎসবের আয়োজন করা হয়েছে। পাড়া উৎসব প্রতিবেশীদের মধ্যে সম্পর্ক উন্নয়ন ও সামাজিক বন্ধন দৃঢ় করতে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা রাখবে।’

শুক্রবার (২ ডিসেম্বর) সকালে রাজধানীর গুলশানের ৬০, ৬১ ও ৬২ নাম্বার সড়কে ‘পাড়া উৎসব’ উদ্বোধন করেন ডিএনসিসি মেয়র। উদ্বোধনী অনুষ্ঠানে প্রধান অতিথি ছিলেন স্থানীয় সরকারমন্ত্রী মো. তাজুল ইসলাম। মেয়র আতিকুল ইসলাম বলেন, ‘আজকে সাপ্তাহিক ছুটির দিনে গুলশানের সবার বাসায় বসে থাকার কথা ছিল। কিন্ত সবাই বাসা থেকে বেরিয়ে এসে এ উৎসবে যোগ দিয়েছি। একে-অন্যকে জিজ্ঞেস করছেন, আপনি কই থাকেন…। এ মিলনমেলার মাধ্যমে একটি বন্ধন তৈরি হয়েছে।’

ডিএনসিসি মেয়র আরও বলেন, ‘আমরা চাই, একটা সুন্দর সামাজিক বন্ধন ও একটি সুন্দর সমাজ। আমরা চাই, সুস্থ সামাজিক চর্চা ও পারস্পরিক শ্রদ্ধাবোধ। কিন্তু আমরা পারছি না। আমরা ঠিকই জাতীয় সংগীত গাই, আমার সোনার বাংলা আমি তোমায় ভালোবাসি…। অথচ ময়লাটা রাস্তায় ফেলে দেই, লালবাতি জ্বলার পরেও আমরা রাস্তায় গাড়ি চালিয়ে দেই। এ বিষয়গুলো মাথায় রেখেই এ পাড়া উৎসব।’

উৎসবে যোগ দেওয়া নগরবাসীর উদ্দেশে মেয়র আতিকুল বলেন, ‘আসুন সবাই শহরকে ভালোবাসি। শহরের পরিবেশ রক্ষায় হর্ন বাজানো বন্ধ করি। গুলশান থেকেই হর্ন বাজানোর চর্চা শুরু হোক।’ ঢাকা উত্তর সিটি করপোরেশনের (ডিএনসিসি) সহযোগিতায় দ্বিতীয়বারের মতো এ পাড়া উৎসবের আয়োজন করে গুলশান সোসাইটি এবং স্বেচ্ছাসেবী সংগঠন হিরোস ফর অল।

শুক্রবার সকাল থেকে শুরু হওয়া এ উৎসবে ছিল দেশীয় পিঠার স্টল, বায়োস্কোপ, পুতুলনাচ, ম‌্যাজিক শো, স্বাস্থ‌্যসেবা স্টল, পাটের তৈরি পণ্যের স্টল। এছাড়া ছিল উইশ বোর্ড, শিশুদের ছবি আঁকার ক্যানভাস ও রং-তুলি, ক্যারাম, দাবাসহ নানা ধরনের খেলার সামগ্রী। রাত ৮টা পর্যন্ত এ উৎসব চলবে।

বাসিন্দাদের পাশাপাশি অনুষ্ঠানে অংশ নেয় বাংলাদেশে নিযুক্ত বিভিন্ন দেশের রাষ্ট্রদূতরা। ডিএনসিসি মেয়র এবং স্থানীয় সরকারমন্ত্রী বিভিন্ন প্রদর্শনী ঘুরে দেখেন ও বাসিন্দাদের সঙ্গে মতবিনিময় করেন। এসময় ডিএনসিসি মেয়র বিভিন্ন খেলায় অংশ নেন এবং গান গেয়ে নগরবাসীর সঙ্গে আনন্দ ভাগাভাগি করে নেন।

নিয়মিত বাৎসরিক আয়োজনের ধারাবাহিকতায় রাজধানীর প্রাণকেন্দ্রে গুলশান এলাকায় আয়োজিত হয়ে গেল “পাড়া উৎসব”। এ উপলক্ষে রাখা হয়েছিল আমাদের সাংস্কৃতিক ঐতিহ্যের সঙ্গে অত্যন্ত সম্পৃক্ত বিভিন্ন আয়োজন। এলাকায় বসবাসরত নাগরিকগণ এই অনুষ্ঠানে যোগ দিয়ে আনন্দে মেতে উঠেছিলেন আর সেই সঙ্গে প্রতিবেশি ও এলাকার অন্যান্য বাসিন্দাদের সঙ্গে এদিন তৈরি হয়েছে তাদের অমূল্য স্মৃতি।

“হিরোস ফর অল” নামের অলাভজনক সেবামূলক প্রতিষ্ঠান আর সেই সঙ্গে গুলশান সোসাইটি ও ডিনসিসি যৌথভাবে গুলশানের আবাসিক এলাকায় নতুন করে প্রাণের সঞ্চার করতে এই দিনব্যাপী অনুষ্ঠান আয়োজন করে৷ “হিরোস ফর অল” এর প্রতিষ্ঠাতা রেহনুমা করিম পুরো অনুষ্ঠানের সার্বিক আয়োজনে নেতৃত্ব দেন। হিরোস ফর অল ইনক এর স্বেচ্ছাসেবকরা যেমন এদিন অক্লান্ত পরিশ্রম করেছেন তেমনি পর্দার অন্তরালে থেকে সক্রিয় ভূমিকা রেখেছেন গুলশান সোসাইটি, সাজ্জাদ সোহেল, তানভীর আহমেদ এবং ডিএনসিসি টিমের শায়ান সেরাজ জামান। সবার সম্মিলিত প্রচেষ্টাতেই এদিনের অনুষ্ঠানটি সফল হয়েছে৷ দেশের বরেণ্য অভিনেত্রী আজমেরী হক বাঁধন এবং সালমা আদিল ফাউন্ডেশনের প্রতিষ্ঠাতা সালমা আদিল এদিনের পুরো আয়োজনে সক্রিয় ভাবে উপস্থিত ছিলেন। সার্বিক সহযোগিতা ও উৎসাহ প্রদান করেছেন সরফরাজ আনোয়ার উপল আর “মনের মানুষ” এর পক্ষ হতে অনুষ্ঠানে জাতীয় পুরস্কার প্রাপ্ত গান আছেন আমার মোক্তার গানের প্রতি সম্মান জানিয়ে তা পরিবেশন করা হয়।

ডিএনসিসি মেয়র আতিকুল ইসলাম এই অনুষ্ঠানে সম্মানিত প্রধান অতিথি হিসেবে উপস্থিত ছিলেন। তিনি বলেন, ” আমরা একটি বৈষম্যমুক্ত নগরী চাই। আমার লক্ষ্য হচ্ছে সকলকে সঙ্গে নিয়ে এই নগর গড়ে তুলতে যেখানে সর্বস্তরের মানুষের অংশগ্রহণ থাকবে। এই পাড়া উৎসব প্রতিবেশিদের মধ্যে পারস্পরিক সম্পর্ক জোরদার করতে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা রাখবে, সামাজিক সম্পর্কগুলোকে করবে আরও দৃঢ়। আমাদের শিশুরা খেলার সুযোগ পাচ্ছেনা। তাদের কোন বন্ধু নেই। আর সেজন্যই এমন উদ্যোগ অত্যন্ত প্রয়োজন। এতে সমাজে অন্যায় ও অস্থিরতা হ্রাস পাবে৷ আমরা ঠিক এরকম একটি ঢাকা গড়ে তুলতে চাই সবার জন্য।

সালমা আদিল ফাউন্ডেশন এবং সেফ হ্যান্ডস এর প্রতিষ্ঠাতা, মার্কিন দূতাবাসের সাবেক কর্মকর্তা লায়ন সালমা আদিল এমজেএফ এই পাড়া উৎসবে স্থানীয় বাসিন্দাদের স্বতঃস্ফূর্ত উপস্থিতি দেখে সন্তুষ্টি প্রকাশ করেন। তিনি বলেন, “এলাকার সকলে মিলে একসঙ্গে ঐতিহ্যবাহী সাংস্কৃতিক বৈশিষ্ট্যপূর্ণ এই আয়োজনটি উপভোগ করছে, দেখে খুব ভালো লাগছে। এর মাধ্যমে এই এলাকার সকলের মধ্যে সামাজিক বন্ধন সুদৃঢ় হবে।”

এই অনুষ্ঠানে ছিল খাবারের আয়োজন, খেলা, জাদু প্রদর্শন, ছবি আঁকা, গান-বাজনা, কৌতুক অভিনয়, লাঠি খেলা, শারীরিক কসরত, পথ নাটক ইত্যাদি। এলাকার সকলের জন্য ছিল ট্যালেন্ট শো।অত্যন্ত সফল ও অনন্য অনুষ্ঠানটি কিছু লক্ষ্য সামনে রেখে আয়োজিত হয়। পরস্পর বিচ্ছিন্ন আমাদের এই সমাজে সকলের মাঝে সংযোগ ঘটানোই ছিল এর উদ্দেশ্য। অল্প সময়ে অমূল্য কিছু স্মৃতি তৈরি করাই ছিল এর পেছনের মূল ভাবনা। এরকম উৎসব প্রতিবেশিদের মধ্যে মায়া, মমতা ও সহযোগিতা জাগিয়ে তুলবে আর নিজের ঐতিহ্য ও সংস্কৃতিকে নিয়ে করবে গর্বিত।

নিজস্ব প্রতিবেদক: রাজধানীর গুলশানের একটি সড়কে অনুষ্ঠিত হচ্ছে ‘পাড়া উৎসব’ ২০২২। মেলার বিভিন্ন স্টলে রয়েছে পিঠা-পুলি, মিষ্টি, বায়োস্কোপসহ আবহমান বাংলার নানান ঐতিহ্যের নিদর্শন। আজ (শুক্রবার) সকাল ৯টা থেকে অলাভজনক সংগঠন ‘হিরোস ফর অল’ এর আয়োজনে এই উৎসব শুরু হয়। উৎসবের উদ্বোধন করে বক্তারা বলেন, সুস্থ জীবন ও সমাজের জন্য ঐতিহ্যের কাছেই মানুষকে শিক্ষা নিতে হয়। সেজন্য এ ধরণের আয়োজন অনেক গুরুত্বপূর্ণ।

আয়োজকরা জানান, নগর ব্যস্ততায় মানুষের মধ্যে থেকে হারিয়ে যাচ্ছে পারস্পরিক সম্প্রীতি ও সৌহার্দ্য। সেই সাথে প্রযুক্তির ব্যবহারে আটকে থাকছে নতুন প্রজন্ম। তাদের জন্যই এই আয়োজন। মেলা চলবে রাত ৯টা পর্যন্ত।

চাকরি, ব্যবসাসহ বিভিন্ন কাজে অত্যন্ত ব্যস্ততার মধ্যে দিন পার করেন রাজধানীর বাসিন্দারা। একই ভবনে পাশাপাশি ফ্ল্যাটে বাস করেও একে অপরকে চেনেন না। বিশেষ কারণ ছাড়া একে অপরের সাথে দেখা হয় না মাসের পর মাস। ফলে তাদের মধ্যে সামাজিক বন্ধনও গড়ে ওঠে না। এ পরিস্থিতি থেকে উত্তরণে গতকাল শুক্রবার অভিজাত এলাকা গুলশানে ডিএনসিসির সহযোগিতায় পাড়া উৎসবের আয়োজন করে গুলশান সোসাইটি ও স্বেচ্ছাসেবী সংগঠন হিরোস ফর অল। গুলশান-২ এলাকার ৬০, ৬১ ও ৬২ নম্বর রাস্তায় এ উৎসবের আয়োজন করা হয়। এ উৎসবে ছিল দেশীয় পিঠার স্টল, বায়োস্কোপ, পুতুল নাচ, ম্যাজিক শো, স্বাস্থ্যসেবা স্টল, পাটের তৈরি পণ্য। এ ছাড়া আরো ছিল উইশ বোর্ড, শিশুদের ছবি আঁকার ক্যানভাস ও রঙতুলি, ক্যারাম বোর্ড, দাবাসহ নানা ধরনের খেলার সামগ্রী। উৎসবে স্থানীয় বাসিন্দাদের পাশাপাশি অংশ নেন কূটনীতিক পাড়ার বাসিন্দারাও। তাদের সাথে যোগ দেন স্থানীয় সরকারমন্ত্রী তাজুল ইসলাম ও উত্তর সিটির মেয়র আতিকুল ইসলাম। তারা বিভিন্ন প্রদর্শনী ঘুরে দেখেন এবং বাসিন্দাদের সাথে মতবিনিময় করেন। গুলশান সোসাইটির মহাসচিব সারওয়াত শুক্লা সিরাজ বলেন, গ্রামের মানুষের মধ্যে যে সুন্দর সামাজিক যোগাযোগ ও বন্ধন রয়েছে, সেটা তৈরি করাই হচ্ছে এ অনুষ্ঠানের মূল উদ্দেশ্য।

মেয়র আতিকুল ইসলাম বলেন, শহরে দেখা যায় প্রতিবেশীরা এক ভবনে দীর্ঘদিন ধরে বসবাস করেও কেউ কাউকে সেভাবে চেনেন না। নিজেদের মধ্যে কোনো যোগাযোগ নেই। তাই সবার সাথে পরিচিত হতে এবং সম্পর্ক সুদৃঢ় করতে এ পাড়া উৎসবের আয়োজন করা হয়েছে। আজ সাপ্তাহিক ছুটি। আজ গুলশানের সবার বাসায় বসে থাকার কথা ছিল কিন্তু আজ সবাই বাসা থেকে বেরিয়ে এসে এ উৎসবে যোগ দিয়েছে। তারা একে অন্যকে জিজ্ঞেস করছে, ‘তুমি কই থাকো?’ এ মিলনমেলার মাধ্যমেই একটি বন্ধন তৈরি হয়েছে।

তিনি আরো বলেন, আমরা চাই একটা সুন্দর সামাজিক বন্ধন ও একটি সুন্দর সমাজ। আমরা চাই সুস্থ সামাজিক চর্চা ও পারস্পরিক শ্রদ্ধাবোধ। কিন্তু আমরা পারছি না। আমরা গান গাই ‘আমার সোনার বাংলা, আমি তোমায় ভালোবাসি। কিন্তু তারপরই ময়লাটা রাস্তায় ফেলে দিই, লালবাতি জ্বলার পরও আমরা রাস্তায় গাড়ি চালিয়ে দিই। এ বিষয়গুলো মাথায় রেখেই এ পাড়া উৎসব। মেয়র বলেন, পাড়া উৎসবকে ছড়িয়ে দিতে চাই পুরো ঢাকা শহরে। পর্যায়ক্রমে ঢাকা শহরের সব এলাকাতেই পাড়া উৎসব আয়োজন করা হবে।

অনুষ্ঠানের প্রধান অতিথি স্থানীয় সরকারমন্ত্রী তাজুল ইসলাম বলেন, উন্নত বিশ্বের মতো ঢাকাতেও সুন্দর পরিবেশ সৃষ্টি করতে সবাইকে এগিয়ে আসতে হবে। এ আয়োজনটি গ্রামের উৎসব ঢাকা শহরে ফিরিয়ে নিয়ে এসেছে। এখানে কোনো প্রতিযোগিতা নেই, আছে হৃদ্যতা। প্রতিবেশীদের সাথে সৌহার্দ্যপূর্ণভাবে বসবাস করতে এ ধরনের উৎসব আয়োজন ভূমিকা রাখবে। গতকাল শুক্রবার সকাল থেকে শুরু হওয়া এ উৎসব চলে রাত ৮টা পর্যন্ত।

শহরে দেখা যায় প্রতিবেশীরা এক ভবনে দীর্ঘদিন ধরে বসবাস করেও কেউ কাউকে সেভাবে চেনে না। একজনের সঙ্গে আরেকজনের যোগাযোগ নেই। তাই সবার সঙ্গে পরিচিত হতে এবং সম্পর্ক বাড়াতে গুলশানে পাড়া উৎসবের আয়োজন করেছে গুলশান সোসাইটি ও স্বেচ্ছাসেবী সংগঠন হিরোস ফর অল। গতকাল শুক্রবার সকাল থেকে রাত পর্যন্ত রাজধানীর গুলশানের ৬০, ৬১ ও ৬২ নম্বর সড়কে এই পাড়া উৎসবের আয়োজন করা হয়। অনুষ্ঠানে প্রধান অতিথি হিসেবে উপস্থিত ছিলেন স্থানীয় সরকার, পল্লী উন্নয়ন ও সমবায় মন্ত্রণালয়ের মন্ত্রী মো. তাজুল ইসলাম। উৎসবের উদ্বোধন করেন ডিএনসিসি মেয়র মো. আতিকুল ইসলাম।

Eight-year-old Anindita Kamal was busy with craftwork on a mat along with 10 other children. Anindita, who enjoyed craft work very much, seemed elated to be at the Paara Utshab. “We came here at noon and my daughter seems to be having a great time. Children normally don't get to go to that many events in Dhaka, which is why they are enjoying the event,” said Rakibul Kamal Gaurab, Anindita's father. He said puppet shows, folk songs and other events attracted attendants of Paara Uthshob.

Dr. Rehnuma Karim from Heroes for All and Shayaan Seraj from Gulshan Society lead the event. Heroes for All and Gulshan Society co-organised the event with the support of DNCC and Prime Bank. LGRD minister Md Tazul Islam and DNCC Mayor Md Atiqul Islam jointly inaugurated the programme. The fair was divided into different zones that concerned health and well-being, knowledge and awareness, arts and crafts, activities and plays. Besides, the third session of The Daily Star's in-house event “Slam Poetry Nights”, organised by SHOUT and The Daily Star Books, was also held at the premises — where people from all walks of life participated and performed.

The event also hosted talent shows, mini workshops on arts and crafts, street drama, CPR and First Aid sessions, fun street games and an exhibition on 50 years of Bangladesh's history, music and more. DNCC mayor Md Atique said they will arrange Paara Utshab in every area in Dhaka gradually.

The second edition of Paara Utshab took place in the capital’s Gulshan area on Friday (yesterday). Co-hosted by Heroes for All (HFA) and Gulshan Society with support from Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), the event arranged activities for all age groups, according to a press release. LGRD Minister Muhammad Tajul Islam and DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam inaugurated the event at 11:00 am. Dr Rehnuma Karim of HFA and Shayaan Seraj of Gulshan Society led the event, which Prime Bank sponsored. 

This year’s Paara Utshab was divided into different zones that hosted a variety of stalls and experiences, including Health & Well-being, Knowledge & Awareness, Arts & Crafts, Activity and play. The event also featured a talent show, Slam poetry, mini workshops on arts and crafts, street drama, CPR, and a First Aid Session. One of the event’s highlights was ’50 years of Bangladesh History’ – a special exhibition by the Bengal Foundation. Turkis Ambassador Mustafa Osman Turan, Norwegian Ambassador Espen Rikter-Svendsen, Member of Parliament Naheed Ezaher Khan, Secretary General of Gulshan Society Barrister Shukla Sarwat Siraj, Prime Bank AMD ANM Mahfu were also present at the event. 

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam Friday said that the target is to make Dhaka city an inclusive one where everybody can enjoy their rights. The interpersonal connectivity and relationship among neighbours will improve through community parties and gatherings with a combined display of culture, heritage, tradition and games, which is missing in today's daily life, the mayor added. He was delivering inaugural speech of the Para Utshob at Gulshan in the city as the chief guest.

Prime Minister's Private Industry and Investment Adviser Salman F Rahman and US Ambassador to Bangladesh Earl R Miller were also present on the occasion. Gulshan Society and DNCC jointly organised the neighborhood event titled 'Para Utshob' to revive the connectivity and amity in the Gulshan community with support of Heroes for All. Atiqul Islam said this type of community events creates scope for games and interpersonal connectivity for all the members and they can learn about many other things like traffic rules, mental health and other civic issues.

“I want one street car free once in a week so that people can take a walk under the open sky and come close to know each other. From that concept Para Uthshob is done and it will be held in every ward gradually,” he said.

Salman F Rahman said all the indicators of Dhaka city are in bad condition in international standard. The government can work to upgrade the indicators up to a certain level. The rest responsibility lies with the citizens. The most difficult problem of Dhaka city is waste collection and disposal, he observed. Earl Miller said this kind of block parties and street parties are common in New York.

In Bangladesh, sometimes a neighbour hardly knows another neighbour, he added. Local MP Nahid Ezaher called upon the guardians to come under the open sky along with their children by leaving the gadgets. Councilor Mofizur Rahman said this type of festivals should be organised at ward level.

Azizul Islam of Alif Group said this event will continue in the same road or the other in every week or every Friday. Green Delta Insurance managing director Farzanah Chowdhury said this kind of event is creative and innovative which creates scope for awareness about what is happening around and what people can do as a community.

It is very good for bonding among neighbours creating a sense of responsibility towards not only the family but also to a community, she added. The day's activities included competitions, traditional street games, open-mike sessions show-casing the talented neighbours, storytelling corners, fun street games for all, health & well-being info stalls, variety stalls, mini-workshops on arts and crafts, meet and greet space to create a joyful atmosphere.

Gulshan Society, MTB Bank, Green Delta Insurance, AKij Food & Beverage, Euro Vigil Pvt Ltd, Rahimafrooz, ABC Milk, Aqua Paint, Flowater, Alif Group, Chaldal, AamraWifi, K-sport, Top of Mind sponsored the programme. The organisers said urban living has pushed most people into a sense of isolation where neighbours are disconnected and often strangers to each other weakening one of the most important social institutions which are the neighborhood communities.

'Para Utshob' is going to be held with the aim to revitalise the relationship among the community members. Mayor Atiqul said arranging such events will have a positive impact on the society.

“Such events enhance communication with each other. We can stand beside each other in distress and happiness through improved bonding,” he said during inauguration. The DNCC mayor also wished to introduce the festival to other wards of the city corporations.

“The event we organised here today should take place in other wards as well. I call on all councilors and social organisations to observe similar festivals in each ward … DNCC will provide assistance,” he said.

প্রতিবেশীদের মধ্যে সম্পর্কের উন্নয়ন, যোগাযোগ বৃদ্ধি, বন্ধন বাড়াতে ও প্রতিবেশী কমিউনিটিকে সুদৃঢ় করতেই প্রতিটি স্তরের নাগরিকদের নিয়ে পাড়া উৎসবের আয়োজন করা হয়েছে বলে জানিয়েছেন ঢাকা উত্তর সিটি কর্পোরেশনের (ডিএনসিসি) মেয়র আতিকুল ইসলাম। একইসঙ্গে সমাজকে এগিয়ে নিতে সকল ভেদাভেদ ভুলে সত্যিকারের অন্তর্ভুক্তিমূলক একটি নগর গড়ার মূল লক্ষেই এমন উৎসব করা উচিত বলে অভিমত ব্যক্ত করেছেন তিনি। শুক্রবার রাজধানীর গুলশান-২ নম্বরের ৬২ নম্বর রোডে এ উৎসবের আয়োজন করা হয়। সামাজিক সংগঠন হিরাজে ফর অল-এর উদ্যোগে গুলশান সোসাইটি এবং ডিএনসিসির সার্বিক সহযোগিতায় এ উৎসবের আয়োজন করা হয়। দিনব্যাপী প্রতিবেশীদের মধ্যে আন্তঃব্যক্তি ও পারিবারিক, সামাজিক সম্পর্ক সুদৃঢ় করতে উৎসবে প্রধান অতিথির বক্তব্যে মেয়র এসব কথা বলেন। অনুষ্ঠানে বিশেষ অতিথি হিসেবে প্রধানমন্ত্রীর বেসরকারী শিল্প ও বিনিয়োগ উপদেষ্টা সালমান এফ রহমান ও ঢাকায় নিযুক্ত মার্কিন রাষ্ট্রদূত রবার্ট মিলার, সংসদ সদস্য নাহিদ এজহার খান, স্টেট ইউনিভার্সিটি অব নিউইয়র্কের অনুষদ সদস্য ও হিরাজে ফর অল-এর প্রতিষ্ঠাতা ড. রেহনুমা করিম, গুলশান সোসাইটির ট্রাফিক ম্যানেজমেন্ট এ্যান্ড সিভিল সোসাইটির আহ্বায়ক শায়ান শেরাজ, মেরিল এ্যান্ড ফোর্বস’র প্রতিষ্ঠাতা ও হিরাজের ফর অল’র পর্ষদ সদস্য তাজরীন মান্না বক্তব্য প্রদান করেন। অনুষ্ঠানে স্থানীয় কাউন্সিলর, ডিএনসিসির উর্ধতন কর্মকর্তাবৃন্দ এবং গুলশানের বিভিন্ন বয়সের এলাকাবাসী উপস্থিত ছিলেন। মেয়র আতিক বলেন, আমরা এমন একটি শহরই চাই, যেখানে কোন রকম ভেদাভেদ থাকবে না। সত্যিকারের অন্তর্ভুক্তিমূলক একটি নগর গড়াই আমার লক্ষ্য। সমাজে ধনী-গরিব, নারী-পুরুষ, ছেলে-মেয়ে, শিশু-বয়স্ক সবার অংশগ্রহণ থাকতে হবে। কেউ পাবে কেউ পাবে না, কারও সুযোগ থাকবে কারও থাকবে না সেটি হবে না। আমাদের শিশুরা খেলার সুযোগ পাচ্ছে না, তাদের বন্ধু হচ্ছে না, তারা কম্পিউটার আর বইয়ে ডুবে থাকে, এভাবে চলতে থাকলে তারা বিষণœতায় ভুগবে, সেটি আমরা মেনে নিতে পারি না। আরও আশঙ্কার বিষয় হলো খেলাধুলা ও সামাজিক মেলামেশার অভাবে আমাদের এই তরুণ প্রজন্মের মাদকাসক্ত ও নেশাগ্রস্ত হয়ে পড়ার আশঙ্কা থাকে। আমরা অবশ্যই এটি চাই না। আর সেজন্যই আমাদের এই উদ্যোগ। ডিএনসিসি মেয়র বলেন, আমরা চাই এলাকাবাসী সবাই আজ সারাদিন এই উৎসব উপভোগ করবেন, পরিবার নিয়ে রাস্তায় আসবেন, নিজের প্রতিবেশীদের চিনবেন, সামাজিক সম্পর্ক দৃঢ় হবে, নিজ এলাকা ও প্রতিবেশীর জন্য নিজেদের মধ্যে দায়িত্বশীলতা বাড়বে। আর এতে করে সামাজিক অন্যায়, অবিচার, অস্থিরতা কমে আসবে। এভাবেই আমরা সবাই মিলে সবার ঢাকা গড় তুলতে চাই। তিনি বলেন, আমরা চাই বাবা-মা তাদের সন্তানদের নিয়ে, দাদা-দাদি, নানা-নানিরা তাদের নাতি নাতনিদের নিয়ে নেমে আসবে, সারাদিন গল্প, খেলা, আড্ডায় তারা মানসিকভাবে বিকশিত হবে, তাদের বন্ধুত্ব হবে, তারা একসঙ্গে মিলেমিশে একে অন্যের এবং এই এলাকার উন্নয়নে কাজ করবে। এরপর মেয়র মার্কিন রাষ্ট্রদূত রবার্ট মিলারসহ অন্যান্য আমন্ত্রিত অতিথি ও এলাকাবাসী নিয়ে বিভিন্ন স্টল পরিদর্শন করেন। তারা দেশীয় পিঠার স্টলে পিঠা উপভোগ করেন, ম্যাজিক শো দেখেন, বায়স্কোপ ও পুতুল নাচ উৎসব আয়োজনে ভিন্ন মাত্রা যোগ করে। এছাড়া বিভিন্ন খাবারের স্টল, স্বাস্থ্যসেবা স্টল, সিটি কর্পোরেশন স্টল, শো-পিস, পাটের তৈরি ব্যবহার্য্য পণ্যসহ আরও অনেক স্টল আয়োজনকে আকর্ষণীয় করে তুলেছে। অনুষ্ঠানে বড় উইশ বোর্ড, শিশুদের ছবি আঁকার জন্য ক্যানভাস ও রং তুলি, ক্যারামবোর্ড, দাবাসহ নামান খেলার সামগ্রী রাখা হয়। এ সময়ে বিভিন্ন বয়সের মানুষ সেগুলো নিয়ে আনন্দে মেতে উঠে। অনুষ্ঠানস্থলে মেয়র মার্কিন রাষ্ট্রদূত রবার্ট মিলার ক্যারাম ও দাবা খেলেন। পাশাপাশি বাংলার ঐতিহ্য বহনকারী গানের তালে তালে বায়স্কোপও দেখেন। পরে মেয়র আমন্ত্রিত অতিথিদের সঙ্গে নিয়ে পুরো উৎসবস্থল ঘুরে দেখেন। পাড়া উৎসবের আয়োজকদের পক্ষ থেকে বলা হয়, শহুরে জীবন মানুষকে এক ধরনের বিচ্ছিন্নতাবোধের দিকে ঠেলে দিয়েছে। যেখানে প্রতিবেশীদের নিজেদের মধ্যে কোন যোগাযোগ নেই, যেখানে একই এলাকার ভেতরে এক প্রতিবেশীর কাছে অপর প্রতিবেশীকে আগন্তুক বলে মনে হয়, যা সামাজিকভাবে সবচেয়ে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ প্রতিবেশী কমিউনিটিকে দুর্বল করে ফেলে। আমরা প্রতিবেশীরা এক ভবনে দীর্ঘদিন ধরে বসবাস করি, কিন্তু কেউ কাউকে সেভাবে চিনি না। পাশ দিয়ে হেঁটে গেলেও কথা হয় না। তাই সবার সঙ্গে পরিচিত হতে এবং সম্পর্ক সুদৃঢ় করতেই আয়োজন করা হয়েছে এমন উৎসব। এমন আয়োজনের প্রশংসা করে মেয়র আতিকুল ইসলাম বলেন,আমি সব সময় বলি, সবাইকে নিয়ে আমাদের সবার ঢাকা। আজ আমরা এখানে এসে দেখলাম দাদা-দাদি, নানা-নানি তাদের নাতি-নাতনিদের নিয়ে এ আয়োজনে এসেছেন। বড়রা পাশে বসে নিশ্চিন্তে হয়তো চা খাচ্ছেন, শিশুরা খেলছেন। এর থেকে আনন্দের দৃশ্য আর কি হতে পারে। এ ধরনের আয়োজনে একে অপরের সঙ্গে মেলবন্ধন বাড়ে, যোগাযোগ বাড়ে। বিপদে-আপদে সুখে-দুঃখে একে অপরের পাশে দাঁড়াতে পারি আমরা। এখানে বিভিন্ন রকমের একটিভিটি হচ্ছে যার মাধ্যমে নাগরিকদের সচেতন হওয়ার শিক্ষা দেয়ার চেষ্টা করছি আমরা। যেমন এখানে জেব্রা ক্রসিং আঁকা হয়েছে। শিশুরা এখান থেকেই জেব্রা ক্রসিংয়ের সঙ্গে পরিচিত হয়ে সচেতন হয়ে বেড়ে উঠবে। এমন আয়োজন ডিএনসিসির অন্যান্য ওয়ার্ডেও ছড়িয়ে দেয়ার পরিকল্পনার কথা জানিয়ে মেয়র আতিক বলেন, অনেকেই বলে পুরান ঢাকায় বিভিন্ন ধরনের ঐতিহ্য রয়েছে। সেখানে অনেক কিছু হয়। আজ আমাদের এখানে যে আয়োজন হলো এটি অন্যান্য ওয়ার্ডেও হওয়া উচিত। তিনি বলেন, আমি সব কাউন্সিলরদের এবং সামাজিক সংগঠনগুলোকে আহ্বান জানাচ্ছি প্রতিটি ওয়ার্ডে এমন আয়োজনে ডিএনসিসি সবধরনের সহায়তা করবে।

মাশরাফি বিন মুর্তজা ও মুশফিকুর রহিমের এই অভিজ্ঞতা আগে কখনো হয়েছে? চোখ বেঁধে বলের ভেতরের বিশেষ শব্দ শুনে ক্রিকেট খেললেন তাঁরা। খেলার পর তাঁদের উপলব্ধি, কাজটা ভীষণ কঠিন! পরে এ দুজনের সঙ্গেই খেলে কঠিন কাজটাই অনায়াসে করে দেখাল দৃষ্টিপ্রতিবন্ধী শিশুরা।

দৃষ্টিপ্রতিবন্ধী শিশুদের খেলার দক্ষতা দেখে মুগ্ধ মাশরাফি-মুশফিক বলেছেন, এই শিশুরা প্রমাণ করেছে সুযোগ পেলে তারাও সবকিছু করতে পারে। দৃষ্টিসম্পন্ন মানুষের চেয়ে তাদের দক্ষতা কোনো অংশেই কম নয়। আজ শনিবার রাজধানীর ধানমন্ডির সুলতানা কামাল মহিলা ক্রীড়া কমপ্লেক্সে এই দুই ক্রিকেটার উপস্থিত হয়ে দৃষ্টিপ্রতিবন্ধী শিশুদের উৎসাহ দেন। শিশুদের কথা শোনেন, তাদের সঙ্গে সেলফি তোলেন। যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের ক্যাম্প অ্যাবিলিটি ইউএসএ এবং বাংলাদেশের স্বেচ্ছাসেবী সংগঠন হিরোজ ফর অল দৃষ্টিপ্রতিবন্ধী শিশুদের এই সুযোগ করে দেয়।

বাংলাদেশ ওয়ানডে অধিনায়ক মাশরাফি বিন মুর্তজা ও জাতীয় দলের উইকেটকিপার ব্যাটসম্যান মুশফিকুর রহিমকে কাছে পেয়ে শিশুরা ভীষণ আনন্দিত। প্রথম আলোকে তারা বলে, তাদের মতো শিশুদের ক্রিকেট খেলার আয়োজন তাও আবার দুই তারকার সঙ্গে খেলার যে স্মৃতি তা তারা কোনো দিন ভুলবে না। আয়োজকদের ধন্যবাদ দিয়ে দু-একজন শিশু জানিয়ে দিল, তারাও বড় হয়ে বড় ক্রিকেটার হবে।

হিরোজ ফর অলের প্রতিষ্ঠাতা ও প্রধান নির্বাহী ড. রেহনুমা করিম প্রথম আলোকে বলেন, ‘সবাই সন্তানদের গতানুগতিকভাবে ডাক্তার-ইঞ্জিনিয়ার বানাতে চায়। কিন্তু তাদের আসলে কোনটা স্বপ্ন তা তেমন জানা হয় না। স্বপ্ন পূরণ না করতে পেরে শিশু-কিশোরদের অনেকেই বিষণ্নতা, মাদকসহ বিভিন্ন দিকে ঝুঁকে যাচ্ছে। আমরা স্কুল ও কলেজের শিক্ষার্থীদের নতুন করে স্বপ্ন দেখানোর চেষ্টা করছি। তাদের সামনে মেন্টর হাজির করছি।’
দৃষ্টিপ্রতিবন্ধী শিশুদের কথা জানিয়ে স্টেট ইউনির্ভাসিটি অব নিউইয়র্কের সাবেক সহযোগী অধ্যাপক রেহনুমা করিম বলেন, ‘আমরা দেখাতে চেয়েছি এই শিশুরা কোনো অংশে কম নয়। তাদের মেধা আছে। প্রয়োজন শুধু পাশে থাকা। আর মাশরাফি বা মুশফিককে কাছে পেয়ে যাতে তাদের স্বপ্নটা চাঙা হয়, তার চেষ্টা করেছি।’

আজকের এ আয়োজনে অ্যাসিস্ট্যান্ট ফর ব্লাইন্ড (এবিসি) নামের প্রতিষ্ঠানের বিভিন্ন ক্লাসে পড়া ৩০ জন দৃষ্টিপ্রতিবন্ধী ছেলেমেয়ে অংশ নেয়। আর এই ৩০ জনকে সহায়তা করতে স্বেচ্ছাসেবক হিসেবে কাজ করেন ৩০ জন তরুণ, যাঁরা বিভিন্ন বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের শিক্ষার্থী। এই তরুণদের (কাউন্সিলর হিসেবে দায়িত্ব পালন করেন) দুদিন প্রশিক্ষণ নিতে হয়, প্রশিক্ষণের অংশ হিসেবে তাঁদেরও চোখ বেঁধে দেওয়া হয় যাতে দৃষ্টিপ্রতিবন্ধী ব্যক্তিদের অবস্থাটা অনুভব করতে পারেন।
দুই দিন কাউন্সিলরদের প্রশিক্ষণ এবং গতকাল শুক্রবার থেকে মূল আয়োজনে দৃষ্টিপ্রতিবন্ধী ২২ জন ও ৮ জন মেয়ে অংশ নেয়। আজ ছিল আয়োজনের শেষ দিন। দিনব্যাপী আয়োজনে উপস্থিত ছিলেন ক্যাম্প অ্যাবিলিটিজ ইউএসএর প্রতিষ্ঠাতা অধ্যাপক লরেন লিবারম্যান, যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের ইউনির্ভাসিটি অব সাউথ ক্যারোলিনার ফিজিক্যাল এডুকেশন বিভাগের অ্যাসিস্ট্যান্ট অধ্যাপক এ্যালি ব্রায়ান, একই বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের পোস্ট ডক্টরাল রিসার্চ স্টুডেন্ট মেগ্যান আরউইন, হিরোজ ফর অলের বোর্ড সদস্য মনিরা রহমান প্রমুখ।

প্রতিবন্ধিতা এবং অ্যাডাপ্টেড ফিজিক্যাল এডুকেশন নিয়ে ১৭টি বইয়ের লেখক (বিশ্বের বিভিন্ন বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে পাঠ্য) লরেন লিবারম্যান সুলতানা কামাল মহিলা ক্রীড়া কমপ্লেক্সে সারাক্ষণই ব্যস্ত ছিলেন দৃষ্টিপ্রতিবন্ধী শিশুদের নিয়ে।
অনুষ্ঠানে জানানো হয়েছে, ১৯৯৬ সাল থেকে যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের নিউইয়র্কে ‘এ লস অব সাইট, নেভার এ লস অব ভিশন’ স্লোগানকে সামনে রেখে লরেন লিবারম্যান ক্যাম্প অ্যাবিলিটিজ ইউএসএ পরিচালনা করছেন। আমেরিকার বিভিন্ন অঙ্গরাজ্যসহ বিশ্বের প্রায় ১৫টি দেশে এ ধরনের ক্যাম্প পরিচালনা করেছেন। আর বাংলাদেশে হিরোজ ফর অল যাত্রা শুরু করেছে গত বছর। সমাজের পিছিয়ে পড়া দৃষ্টিপ্রতিবন্ধী শিশুদের সঙ্গে দৃষ্টিসম্পন্নদের খেলার এ আয়োজন এবারই প্রথমবারের মতো অনুষ্ঠিত হলো।

শহুরে জীবন মানুষকে এক ধরনের বিচ্ছিন্নতাবােধের দিকে ঠেলে দিয়েছে। যেখানে প্রতিবেশীদের নিজেদের মধ্যে কোনাে যােগাযােগ নেই, যেখানে একই এলাকার ভেতরে এক প্রতিবেশীর কাছে অপর প্রতিবেশীকে আগন্তুক বলে মনে হয়, যা সামাজিকভাবে সবচেয়ে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ‘প্রতিবেশী কমিউনিটি’কে দুর্বল করে ফেলছে।

প্রতিবেশীদের মধ্যে এ সংযােগকে পুনরুজ্জীবিত করে তুলতেই রাজধানীর গুলশানে অনুষ্ঠিত হচ্ছে ‘পাড়া উৎসব’।অলাভজনক সংস্থা ‘হিরােজ ফর অল’- এর যৌথ অংশীদারিত্বে গুলশান সােসাইটি ও ঢাকা উত্তর সিটি কর্পোরেশন (ডিএনসিসি) প্রথমবারের মতো এ উৎসবের আয়োজন করেছে। শুক্রবার গুলশান ২ নম্বরের ৬২ নম্বর রোডে এই পাড়া উৎসবের আয়োজন করা হয়েছে।

সমাজের ক্রমবর্ধমান অনাস্থা বিষয়ে উদ্বিগ্ন হয়ে ডিএনসিসির মেয়র আতিকুল ইসলামের সহায়তায় স্টেট ইউবি ভার্সিটি অব নিউইয়র্কের অনুষদ সদস্য ও হিরােজ ফর অলের প্রতিষ্ঠাতা ড. রেহনুমা করিম, গুলশান সােসাইটির ট্রাফিক ম্যানেজমেন্ট অ্যান্ড সিভিক সােসাইটির আহ্বায়ক শায়ান শেরাজ, মেরিল অ্যান্ড ফোর্বস’র প্রতিষ্ঠাতা ও হিরােজ ফর অলের পর্ষদ সদস্য তাজরীন মান্না এ আয়ােজনের অন্যতম আয়ােজক হিসেবে কাজ করেছেন।

নাহিদ হাসান নামে গুলশান সোসাইটির এক সদস্য বলেন, আমরা পাশাপাশি ভবনে দীর্ঘ দিন ধরে বসবাস করি, কিন্তু কেউ কাউকে সেভাবে চিনি না। পাশ দিয়ে হেঁটে গেলেও কথা হয় না। তাই সবার সঙ্গে পরিচিত হতে এবং সম্পর্ক সুদৃঢ় করতে এ উৎসব গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা রাখবে বলে মনে করি।

পাড়া উৎসব আয়ােজনে আছে নানা ধরনের প্রতিযােগিতা। ঐতিহ্যবাহী বিভিন্ন খেলা, প্রতিবেশীদের জন্য ওপেন-মাইক সেশন, স্টোরিটেলিং কর্নার, সুস্বাস্থ্য ও ভালাে থাকা নিয়ে তথ্য বিষয়ক স্টল এবং শিল্পকলা ও হস্তশিল্প নিয়ে মিনি-ওয়ার্কশপ। এছাড়া প্রতিবেশীদের সবাইকে নিয়ে আনন্দঘন মুহূর্তের আবহ তৈরিতে রয়েছে ‘মিট অ্যান্ড গ্রিট’।

এ উৎসব আয়ােজনে সহায়তা করেছে গুলশান সােসাইটি, এমটিবি ব্যাংক, গ্রিন ডেলটা ইন্স্যুরেন্স, আকিজ ফুড অ্যান্ড বেভারেজ, ইউরাে ভিজিল প্রাইভেট লিমিটেড, রহিম আফরােজ, এবিসি মিল্ক, অ্যাকুয়া পেইন্ট, ফ্লোওয়াটার, আলিফ গ্রুপ, চালডাল, আমরা ওয়াইফাই, কে-স্পাের্ট এবং টপ অব মাইন্ড।

Development2030 : Beyond Aid. This new event is being launched at the Brussels Expo on 17-18 November, 2021 by The Montgomery Group, a UK based organization . The conference is launched alongside the 10th Anniversary of ‘AidEx’ — the world largest live event for the Aid and Development community. Development2030 will address the current challenges in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and will explore the world beyond aid.

In the lead up to this new event, a series of webinars will be organised, and the first webinar in this series will be in collaboration with ‘Heroes For All’. An esteemed panel will join the platform to discuss the challenges and possible solution to help the world move towards achieving the SDGs by 2030 through collaboration.

Dhaka (June 5, 2021) : In the spirit of World Environment Day which was celebrated across the world on June 5th,  a team of Heroes for All members that included Mahmuda Mannan, Yeasrib Hassan, Irfat Mahmud  along with the Founder and President — Dr. Rehnuma Karim, visited Hatibanda, Rangpur to  show their support for a tree plantation program by Mr. Mizanur Razzak.

Mr. Mizanur Razzak’s story that was first featured on Daily Star about his mission to plant trees in his village and adjacent areas to help reduce soil erosion and help revive the environment — inspired Heroes for All to stand by him. This is why, when HFA learned about Razzak taking loan from the bank to buy saplings and plant trees, Dr. Karim decided to raise fund to pay off his loan.

During the visit, Heroes for All was happy to announce their plan to collaborate with Mizanur Razzak’s “ Shobuj Prithibi Bachau” to initiate a Plantation project involving children and youth of the area. HFA believes that when a young child will find the pleasure and see the result from planting a tree— he or she will grow up to become a protector of the environment and become conscious on the importance of greening one’s environment. To promote this campaign reflecting Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s call— Heroes for All is planning to start fundraising  campaigns to spread the message of saving the environment through tree plantation all across Bangladesh.

Strategic Partnership between Heroes for All and Your House Social Enterprise Inc

22nd January, 2021 : A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed for building strategic partnership between the Canada based Social Enterprise YOUR HOUSE and Heroes for All Inc on January 22, 2021. The program was held virtually between the organizations in which representatives from both organizations across the globe were present. The purpose of this partnership is to build synergistic partnerships that can help both organizations develop effective children and youth related programs that can contribute towards long-term sustainable socio-economic impact for all three countries (Bangladesh, USA and Canada)

The Partnership contains four components : (1) creating programs and spaces that will allow children and youth to build themselves as healthy, educated and positive minded conscious global citizen (2) Share training and technical assistance between the two organization in common interest areas (3) Collaborative research to find the impact and result of programs and (4) support common interest that help young people become inspired and empowered.

The executive team and the Boards members from both organizations were virtually present for the signing and enthusiastically looking forward to develop programs helping children and youth in New York, Bangladesh and Toronto. Both organizations promised to not limit the programs only between the selected countries but in time would like to help kids and youth globally. Rehnuma Karim, Ph.D, the President & Founder of Heroes for All, Niaz Adnan, Co-Founder & CEO, and David Carruthers, Co-Founder & COO from Your House Social Enterprise Inc signed the MOU on behald of their respective organizations. Coach Jim Johnson and John Bruschetto were present as key witnesses.

Heroes for All managed to distribute one week food supply to 1500+ families across Bangladesh through our volunteers. So many more are experiencing desperate conditions due to this crisis and we are afraid there will be a surge in the demand for food in the coming days. We are mobilizing our contacts in different districts as well who are making list of families based on need.

Thanks to our well-wishers, friends and families for continuously supporting us to make this happen and give some hope to the struggling families. Also thanks for those who are with us and look forward to more supports so we continue to serve more people efficiently.

The world today seemed to be facing problems such as lack of inclusion, close-mindedness, lack of tolerance, inadequate empathy and compassion, and very little opportunity to grow cultural intelligence. The polarizing, fundamentalist and nationalistic views of political leaders are often leaving the future generation confused and tend to be pushing them to an edge of making wrong life choices filling their mind with tension instead of unity.

This is why, in these challenging times, Heroes for All is launching series of initiatives to connect the young people of the world through a platform that would allow them to share their experiences, knowledge and discuss together to plant the seed of collective thinking to solve global problems. To help build future leaders, HFA has and will continue to organize Cross-cultural dialogues with leaders who can shed light on issues through a global context.

Heroes for All partnered with Gulshan Society and Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) to bring first of its kind neighborhood event titled – ‘Paara Uthshab’ on December 20, 2019 in one of the neighborhoods of Gulshan 2.

Now-a-days, urban living has pushed most people to a sense of isolation where neighbors are disconnected and often strangers to each other weakening one of the most important social institutions which are the neighborhood communities. ‘Paara Utshob’ is going to be held with the aim to revitalize the relationship among the community members.

Dr. Rehnuma Karim (faculty of State University of New York, Founder of Heroes for All), Shayaan Sheraj (Convener of Traffic Management and Civic Utilities from Gulshan Society) and Tajrina Mannan (Founder of Merill and Forbes and also one of Board of Directors of Heroes for All) envisioned the program with the support from the Honorable Mayor, Atiqul Islam as they observed the growing distrust and stress in the society.

The day includes competitions, traditional street games, open-mike sessions show-casing the talented neighbors, fortune telling, bio-scope, art wall for all, storytelling corners, fun street games for all, Health and well-being info stalls, Variety stalls, mini-workshops on arts and crafts, meet and greet space to create a joyful atmosphere.

Atiqul Islam, The Honorable Mayor of DNCC inaugurated the event at 10:00 am accompanied by His Execellency Earl R. Miller. DNCC, Gulshan Society, MTB Bank, Green Delta Insurance, AKij Food and Beverage, Euro Vigil Pvt Ltd, Rahim Afrooz, ABC milk, Aqua Paint, Flowater, Alif Group, Chaldal, Aamra Wifi, K-sport, Top of Mind all came together to make this event a memorable experience for all.

As educational institutes are not addressing the most crucial life skill that is “ developing growth mindset” to help individuals face all challenges with positivity – Heroes for All is holding a workshop that will address proven techniques and tools to help you rewire your mindset for growth and happiness.

The school space can also become a learning incubator for the community after-school hours and on the weekend introducing Parenting Workshop, Nutrition and Computer training classes, etc. Create Community connectedness through programs that brings the community together such as school fair, reading clubs, computer training for both adults and children, monthly parenting workshop, creating scope for parents to volunteer in their children’s class, neighbourhood clean-up programs. Continuous teachers’ development through training by experts in the field of child psychology and well-being, and early childhood learning experts. Help the learners to be develop language skill from early age both with the proper pronunciations of Bengali and English language. Volunteer Students from colleges in USA and from Bangladesh will be involved with the local kids encouraging the learning through fun methods and mentoring. Building strong moral character and ethical standards through monthly programs on values and world-views introducing role models, regular practices and awards.

Target Area : Ashulia Industrial Zone.

Target Population : Children of local industrial workers, parent and teachers, local residents.

Strategies : Engaged learning and teaching through hand-on experiences, field trips, career days, community engagement projects, development of reading habits, leadership camps, self-discipline, team-work, competitions, imagination and creative thinking, arts and culture, disciplined work-habits, involvement in play and sports.

Projected cost for initial two storied school building : 36 Lac Taka.

Current Stage of the Project : The external and internal structural design (for 4 storied building) has been approved by the structural engineer and the plans have been approved by the local authority. The two and half Katha land has been cleared for starting the shallow foundation of the school.

Heroes for All, a youth leadership platform and non-profit organisation, is working together with Camp Abilities USA to organised the event “Camp Abilities Bangladesh 2018”. The event is intended to help the visually impaired children to make a mark in the competitive world. Camp Abilities USA is a developmental sports camp for children who are visually impaired, blind or deaf-blind.

Dr Lauren Lieberman, Dr Megan Irwin and Dr Ali Brian briefed the volunteers, camp counselors and other executive bodies affiliated with the event on how to guide visually impaired kids throughout “Camp Abilities Bangladesh 2018”. Dr Rehnuma Karim, Founder and President of Heroes For All, also shared her plans of the event. The discussion took place at the North South University Campus, where volunteers from different universities and institutions took part. “Camp Abilities Bangladesh 2018” is sponsored by BRAC Bank, Qatar Airways, City Bank, Islam Group, Triple Apparels Limited, Galaxy, Plummy Fashions Limited, Lakeshore Hotels and Star Youth, The Daily Star. Also, Assistance for Blind Children (ABC) is working side by side with Heroes For All to make this event into a colossal success.
